Laser Tattoo Removal

How it works

We use a Q-Switch Nd:YAG laser. It fires pulses measured in billionths of a second that shatter ink particles too large for your body to remove into fragments small enough for it to clear. Your immune system carries those fragments away over the following weeks, which is why sessions are spaced out and fading happens gradually.

What a course of treatment looks like

Most tattoos need six to twelve sessions, six to eight weeks apart. Black and dark blue ink respond best. Yellow, green and light colours are harder and may need more sessions. Older and amateur tattoos usually clear faster than new professional work.

Is it right for you?

Usually a good fit

  • Unwanted tattoos you want fully removed
  • Fading a tattoo so an artist can cover it
  • Black, dark blue and most dark inks

We may advise against it if you have

  • A current tan on the area
  • Pregnancy
  • A history of keloid scarring
  • Some yellow and pastel inks, which may only partly fade. We will say so at the assessment.

This is general information. Your consultation covers your own health history before anything is booked.

Before and after your appointment

  1. 1Keep the area out of the sun before and throughout the course.
  2. 2Numbing cream is available. The pulse feels like a rubber band snap.
  3. 3Whitening, swelling and sometimes pinpoint bleeding or blisters are normal straight after.
  4. 4Keep it clean and covered as instructed, and let any scabs come away on their own.

“The equipment was great and we didn't just learn textbook theory — we used real, modern tools. They always kept things current and relevant. I love…”

Common questions

Why does tattoo removal take so many sessions?
Each session breaks up only part of the ink, and your body needs six to eight weeks to clear those fragments before the next round can reach the ink beneath. Hurrying the sessions raises the risk to your skin without clearing the tattoo any faster.
Can you fade a tattoo just enough for a cover-up?
Yes, and it usually takes far fewer sessions than full removal. A lighter base gives your artist much more freedom with the new design.
Will laser tattoo removal leave a scar?
With correct settings and aftercare the risk is low. The tattoo itself sometimes left scarring that becomes visible once the ink goes. Picking at scabs and sun exposure are the main avoidable causes of marks.
