At BC Medical Spa our approach is simple… It’s all about you!

Laser hair removal is a very successful method of long-term hair reduction. It is a safe method used by thousands of people to remove slow unwanted hair growth. It is important to understand the benefits and downsides of using laser hair removal.

How it works:

Laser hair removal functions by heating the hair follicles to stop new hairs from growing. It is the process of removing unwanted hair by exposing the hair follicle to pulses of laser light.  The laser’s light uses heat to destroy the hair follicle and its blood supply, while at the same time protecting the surrounding tissue.  Laser devices have evolved significantly in the past several years.

Pre-treatment:

– Shave the area being treated closely the day before your appointment. Continue to use shaving as your only method of hair removal in the area being treated during your laser hair removal treatment series

– Avoid the sun!

– On the day of the appointment, avoid perfumes, colognes, lotions, deodorants, and any other body products on the area being treated

– You may choose to take Tylenol or Advil 30 mins before your appointment

Post-treatment Care

  •         Avoid sun exposure for at least a few days after treatment. This includes tanning beds.
  •         Apply Aloe vera or cool towels on the skin to soothe tingling or irritation.
  •         Saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs should be avoided for 24-48 hours after treatment.
  •         No additional laser treatment or chemical peels should be conducted on the treated skin for at least one week.
  •         Make sure you wear sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30.
  •         Once the skin is no longer sensitive, mild exfoliation can be done to prevent ingrown hairs.

Advantages of laser hair removal:

  •         Clearer, smoother skin
  •         Permanent hair reduction
  •         Minimal Side Effects
  •         Cost-Effective
  •         No Waiting For Hair Growth
  •         No Ingrown Hairs
  •         Reduces ingrown hairs and less irritation of the skin
  •         Speed. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time.

FAQ:

How effective is laser hair removal:

The number of treatments required for long-term benefits and effectiveness depends on the area being treated, your hair density, and the hair’s growth cycle. It also depends on the amount of hair, hair color, your genetic background and how closely you follow the schedule set by your technician.

Does laser hair removal grow back?

If anyone has ever told you that Laser Hair Removal is permanent they are lying to you! Due to hormones and aging, not every hair can be destroyed.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

It takes an average of 6 treatments. With each treatment, a good percentage of hair will reduce, or become finer in texture. Also, due to hormones and aging, not every hair can be destroyed.  Generally, after 6 sessions, the treated area should see about 50% reduction in hair *some exclusions apply. Sessions are generally 4 to 5 weeks apart depending on the area to be treated.

What is the best type of laser hair removal for me:

Historically, laser hair removal could only be safely and effectively performed on individuals with lighter skin and darker hair. This is no longer the case. With the exception of very light or gray hair, most complexions can be successfully treated with the appropriate laser.

Different devices enable us to customize each treatment to the individual’s needs. During your consultation, we will evaluate your complexion and discuss which laser we recommend for you and why.

Is laser hair removal costly?

Laser hair removal may seem expensive initially. However, ultimately it is more cost-effective than other conventional hair removal methods. Razors and waxing add up, the hair always grows back. You may suffer from ingrown hair or razor burn. You can think of laser hair removal as a beauty investment.

Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?

Laser hair removal is safe and well-tolerated by most people. However, there are risks involved, such as minor burns or temporary pigmentation. The risks of laser treatments are significantly decreased when care is provided by trained professionals at BC Medical Spa.
